Danielle Lemaire | Tout n’est que rêve

Fri 1 November – Sat 30 November
Van Gogh Air Zundert

Danielle Lemaire makes small and large detailed drawings and paintings, occasionally gives sound performances, releases sound works, books and other printed matter and makes exhibitions. She is an art programmer at Extrapool in Nijmegen and occasionally gives workshops painting and drawing to individuals and companies.

Danielle’s drawings and paintings often contain subjects such as “empty” interiors in which human presence is suggested; shadows / traces of human life; a vision or dream. The image can be populated by familiar or friendly people, a self-portrait, people with a specific personal memory or anonymous people in a seance-like setting. She is fascinated by the idea that the human being in the world is temporarily physically present and leaves traces in the space he / she occupied after leaving; traces that are not immediately perceptible, but are present and have an influence on the current of a space. This can be an architectural space, but also a landscape.

In a number of projects in recent years, she has studied the character and life of a special historical person / artist. With a series of drawings, Danielle Lemaire elaborates on Van Gogh’s drawings, his life in Nuenen, the surroundings of the inn’s house in Zundert, a discovery in London and the phenomenon Jo Bonger. The title Tout n’est que rêve is a sentence from Jo Bonger’s diary after the death of Theo van Gogh, with whom she was married.
